Don't Quit Your Daydream!!!
Don't Quit Your Daydream... For all you moms out there who find yourselves packing strollers, and assorted bags of everything from diapers to sunscreen, I understand what that looks like and what it feels like. It is wonderful, exciting and overwhelming all at the same time! In the midst of full focus on our children, we sometimes set aside our own goals and dreams for a season. Like many of you, I had a full time career in surgical sales before my "little blessing" appeared. My dream was to start a surf clothing line for infants and toddlers.
If I listened to all the negatives, I would have stopped before I bought the website. But I'm gonna take a swing at this and see what happens. I want to encourage you to rekindle the fire for your dream with these 5 surf themed steps: 1) PICK OUT YOUR SURFBOARD Before your dream can come true, you have to identify what it is... Find something that pulls at you and energizes. Buying the surfboard is the first step towards learning how to surf. What is it you want to do? 2) STUDY HOW TO SURF I bought my surfboard and now I am committed! The next step is to learn everything you need to know to get started. Study your industry. Learn from others who have been successful. Much of what I am doing is reading about what works and what doesn't. I'm learning about how to leverage social media. I am studying about how the retail world works. I'm figuring out how to track inventory and best business practices. This is an ongoing action step. I have researched enough to know what needs to be done. Now it's time to get to the beach. 3) PADDLE OUT There is never going to be a perfect time to chase your dream perfectly! It will be two steps forward and one step back. You are gonna fall off your board in the beginning. It is about the courage to pursue and make adjustments. Stay focused on "standing up", not how many times you have fallen. 4) KEEP GETTING IN THE WATER This is where you have to stay positive and mange the mental. Like I said, there are plenty of people who can tell you why it won't work. This is the time to be relentless. I have found that it is taking much longer than I wanted to see fruit on the Salt Baby tree. This is the time to pursue until! You learn by doing. So keep going back to the beach, keep paddling out, learn to read the waves better, whatever it takes.
5) ENJOY THE RIDE It has been important for me to see how much fun I am having. Creating designs, learning how run a business, and the thousand other little details that go into making it all happen... This is my "baby" and I love every day of the grind. It is easy to see whats not working and get impatient, so I stay focused on "why" I started Salt Baby. I am thankful I have a board, thankful for the ocean that produces the waves, and and I stay inspired and motivated by the opportunity to "go for it" every day... Moms, don't quit your daydream!!!
